There was a time when the Los Angeles Dodgers ruled Los Angeles as the dominant baseball team of the land but unfortunately that time has come an gone. The Angels are now LA’s baseball team… with the signing of Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson today, Anaheim has never seemed so close. Hell for me it’s just a trip on the Metro!
There was a time when the Los Angeles Dodgers would captivate the hearts and minds of Dodger fans in the off-season with the speculation of a big signing. Hell as a Dodger fan you almost always expected the Dodgers to sign the biggest and baddest free agents on the market. Growing up I remember the Dodgers signing Daryl Strawberry, Eric Davis and Brett Butler all in one off-season… I remember thinking to myself the Dodgers have just signed an All-Star outfield. But unfortunately for most Dodgers fan, those days have come and gone… at least for now.
While the Angels are signing the likes of Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson, the Dodgers announced the signing of Aaron Harang, a projected #4 starter…
The Angels needed a big bat and they went out and got the biggest bat out there. I remember a time when the Dodgers would have done the same… Fortunately for me I’m a baseball mercenary and follow the local teams that make the biggest effort to put the best product on the field not line their pockets.
It’s going to be a lot of fun watching Albert Pujols play baseball here in Southern California wearing an Angels uniform. And let’s not forget the
signing of this guy to the right. C.J. Wilson who was the biggest free agent pitcher headed into the off-season. Only the Angels could diminish his signing by signing the best hitter in baseball… C.J. Wilson went 16-7 last season for the Texas Rangers with a 2.94 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP and, oh yea, he’s from southern California.
It’s a great time to be an Angels fan. The Angels have one of the youngest and most exciting pitching rotations in baseball in my opinion with Jered Weaver, Dan Haren, C.J. Wilson and Ervin Santana. And frankly I’m not hearing all that talk about the deal for Pujols being too long… Albert Pujols is a hitting machine and this is the American League where he can DH! And to be honest, I remember when the Los Angeles Dodghers signed the best hitter of the time just a few short years ago in Manny Ramirez and I remember what that did for the town of Los Angeles and more specifically for baseball in this town. I can see Albert Pujols having the same type of effect for the Angels and you can’t put a price on that when you’re trying to become thee baseball team in Los Angeles.
