Joe Torre is Exactly What the Dodgers Need
Filed under: Los Angeles Dodgers
I don’t like the fact that he’s going to be paid close to $5 Million per year because no Major league Baseball manager is worth that type of money but the Dodgers need to hire Joe Torre…
Yes, Joe Torre was a below .500 (winning percentage) manager in the National League prior to joining the Yankees but what the Dodgers need is someone like Phil Jackson (with the Lakers) to act as a calming influence on the Dodgers…
More importantly, the Los Angeles Dodgers need someone with a strong and storied baseball resume to tell players like James Loney, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier to shut the hell up when the situation calls for it…
I can’t for the life of me imagine Loney and Kemp talking the crap they were talking last year with Don Mattingly and Larry Bowa on the bench (coaches that Torre is rumored to be bringing with him).
The LA Times printed today that Loney was saddened to hear about Grady Little’s departure…
Of course he is.
Little pretty much let Loney and Kemp do as they wanted when he was there and that’s why Little is now out of work. Again…
And that’s why there was a huge rift between the veterans and rookies last year.
Because the Dodgers didn’t have a manager that would get in the rookies faces and tell them to know their role and shut the hell up!
If anything in his last season with the Yankees, I learned that Joe Torre is fully capable of integrating younger players with high-paid superstars… a skill that is desperately needed in Los Angeles this coming year.

Speculation also has it that Joe Torre is asking to have a say in personel decisions and if that means the possibility of bringing Alex Rodriquez to the Dodgers then I’m all for it.
I don’t care if Frank McCourt has to raise the price of parking to something like $50 if it means you can bring in AROD…
Show me something Dodgers…don’t make me spend the last month of this coming season watching the Angels again.
