Ducks Sign Giguere For $24 Million

The Anaheim Ducks announced that they have signed Goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere to a 4 year $24 Million contract.

The goalie was one of the top performers in the Ducks run to the Stanley Cup and would have been an unrestriced free agent.

Several teams expressed interest in him and I think he could’ve picked up a bigger contract elsewhere. The guy is one of the best goalies in the game and he’s proven that he plays some of his best hockey in the playoffs but Giguere was pretty clear throughout this season that he wanted to return to the Ducks.

Kudos to the Ducks for putting a deal together to keep one of the best goalies in the game in Anaheim and to J.S. Giguere for keeping his word and for not going to play somewhere else for more money.

If the Ducks can bring back Teemu Selanne for another year, we may be looking at a dynasty here…

With the signing of Giguere and Swiss Goalie Jonas Miller, it appears that 2006 backup goalie Ilya Bryzgalov will be playing for another team next year…

Bryzgaloz would make a perfect fit with the Los Angeles Kings. He’s young (just turned 27 today) and he’s played well both during the regular season (2006-07 he was 10-8-6 with a 2.46 goals against average) and the post-season (9 victories in the past 2 years).

Let’s hope the LA Kings front office can get off their asses this off-season and put a decent team on the ice…

And I’m not talking about a team that’s built just to make the playoffs. I’m talking about a team that’s built to win in the playoffs.

This is Los Angeles for pete’s sake.
