I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t expect Ted Lilly to come out and pitch the way he did in his Dodgers debut but if he continues to pitch like that the Dodgers might be able to creep back into the playoff hunt…
Vicente Padilla just continues to pitch the way he did last season when the Dodgers first acquired him. He pitches big in big games… Last night he went 9 innings for a complete game shut out of the first place San Diego Padres to bring the Dodgers within 7 games of first.
With Ted Lilly in the fold now and, particularly if he can continue to pitch the way he did in his debut, The Dodgers have three veteran starters deep in their rotation with Hiroki Kuroda and if you ask me it’ll be these three veterans leading the way for the Los Angeles Dodgers down the stretch. If you ask me the alleged chase for winger Ilya Kovalchuk by the Los Angeles Kings was exactly just that… alleged. The Los Angeles Kings are Stanley Cup pretenders until they prove otherwise. It seems all they ever do is put a team on the ice that’s maybe good enough to squeak into the playoffs but never quite good enough to actually make a real run at the Stanley Cup.
This year that fact is even more painful to withstand only because the team is very young and talented and is maybe only one really talented winger away from making a real run. This team is on the verge of challenging for the Stanley Cup if management would just acquire a top flight winger that can score consistently. This team has grit, toughness, tenacity and did I mention that they’re also young and talented particularly on the defensive end?
It was almost painful to watch the Kings in the playoffs last year… for the whole story go to: Kings Are Pretenders Until They Prove Otherwise.
