3 Big Reasons the LA Angels Are On Top of the AL West

Los Angeles Angels
Orlando Cabrera
Orlando Cabrera has never hit over .300 in his career yet he’s getting paid $7.5 Million this year. A large part of that probably has something to do with the enormous potential Cabrera has shown throughout his career and it looks like he
may be hitting his stride this year.
Sure he had a couple of defensive lapses this past week but the guy is hitting .335 this year! He’s been consistently setting the table for Vlad Guerrero from the #2 and 3 spots in the line-up this year and he’s the leader of the Angels infield defense.
I think Cabrera is a big reason the Angels clubhouse is still a good one despite the quiet nature of Vlad Guerrero. He’s the outspken guy the rest of the team the guy can rally behind and Vlad can focus on hitting the ball out of the park.
Reggie Willits
All this guy has done is come from out of no where to hit .311, steal 14 bases and has a .402 OBP from the all important lead off spot.
Speaking of, Willits is perfect for the leadoff spot because he is consistently working deep into pitching counts which allows his teamates to see more of the opposing pitchers pitches.
Kelvim Escobar
Escobar is similar to Cabrera in that the Los Angeles Angels signed him mostly based on unrealized potential.
And like Cabrera, Escobar seems to be putting it all together this year. He seems to have complete command of all 4 of his pitches and is having an easy time keeping hitters off balance. He’s currently 7-3 with a 2.76 ERA. Escobar’s never finished a year with an ERA below 3.
Of course, Escobar has always been prone to the injury bug so I just hope he can stay healthy for the entire season so we can see what type of year he can actually put together when on and healthy.
